Post by Sandman »

Good evening all,

I had my camera today and a great photo op presented itself.....I came across a doe and 3 fawns bedded and was able to get these pics with the add of my new investment (lens):

Is it me or do these fawns look way too small for this time of the year

Yes these fawns are young for this time of year. Reasons? too many does for the amount of MATURE bucks to do the breeding on time thus the fawn drop is late (July). The mother didnt get bred until her second heat December. Not enough Mature bucks to do the breeding. Buck to Doe ratio is way out of balance.

This doe had 3 fawns with her but I could not get them all into one photo. Would the fact that she had triplets account for smaller size??

Must be old age creeping up as I cant stop thinking about what a tough winter they are in for~!

They must have been born very late. They might survive a mild winter, but heavy snow would sure give them a tough time.
