My son's first deer

Post by diesel »

Cameron and I had a great hunt. We set in the Hilton tree stand last Saturday night. We were in the stand by 4:30 pm. and with in 15 minutes I saw some deers legs moving through the brush I gave the Exocet to him and told him to get ready but we did not get to see where they went. He read and played with his Game-Boy and helped look for deer.
About 6:15 I pointed a deer out to him it was 50 yards away and on the neighbors land. I gave the bow to Cameron and we told him to get ready but we have to wait for the deer #1 to move on to our land and #2 to get a lot closer. The deer turned and looked our way and started to come our direction. The Sun was getting lower in the sky so it was shining right in on us the deer stopped and started doing that head bob stuff and looking at us it then continued to walk down the path on the neighbors land was 35 yards away we watched as the deer walked out of sight.
After about 20 minutes Cameron gave the bow to me again. We both though the deer saw us and was gone.
Then 25 minutes later I hear somthing to my left and it's that same deer an 8 point buck walking right up to us to eat the rye grass, apples and corn. I'm sure it would have been funny to watch, it had to look like two guys playing hot potatoe. He had the Game-boy in his hand and I had the bow . He could not decide how to shot the deer and hold onto the Game-boy. I took the Game-Boy from him and handed him the bow . He took aim and stopped look at me and ask. Dad is he at 15 yards I said yes he took aim again, removed the safty and shot. The deer did a 180 and ran down through the tall weeds we both watched it go . It ran about 50 yards and fell over we gave a high five and laughed and smiled talked about the shot. Then it happened I looked at him and his right hand and arm was shaking and jumping around . I ask what was wrong he said he was so excited he could not help it.
What a great hunt and glad he waited till after the shot to start shaking.
