I askm as many friends as I can if they know a family who is struggleing.
I just gave away a whole deer in the last 12 hours.
You might put a sign up in your yard,Don't know how good an idea that is but you never know.

I give it to relatives who often don't even cook it until it's freezer burned beyond belief. It is quite a dilemma!

I had extra garden produce one year and I couldn't give it to the food banks because the person in charge says they wouldn't know how to cook it. If it doesn't involve opening a can, they're lost.

In Ontario the cops have a list of people willing to claim roadkills they like venison so much. I wonder if you offered some of the meat to the people on the list (don't know if they have such a list in your area).

Planter,

Here is a link to their natonal listing. As you said it is not available in Mass but they have a pretty sucessful program down in Connecticut. They probably will not take out of state meat but it may be worth the call.

When we share our deer with the landowners, we include recipes for marinades and preparing. Most people don't know how to prepare it well and don't enjoy it for that reason alone.

The best way to part with venison is to make it into summer sausage or jerky - people will fight over it!

i give some to elderly family members that can't hunt anymore but still enjoy the meat. as well as my family doctor likes it but doesn't hunt so i give some to him. last fall i had a guy over to service my furnace he was there while we were cutting and wrapping a deer i had shot the night before and asked if he could buy some  because he had never tried it ( a very nice german fella that had just moved here) i told him absolutely not as it is highly illegal to sell it here and gave him a very nice selection of meat on his way out.

pretty near all we eat here is game of one kind or nother. You gotta slowly get em used to it.
If you grind most of it you can't taste it in clilli, spagetti, etc. Another way is to put in some beef stock, taste more beefy.
Best way is make sausage or jerky or pepperettes, etc. Don't tell em whats in it!

The butchers here in Georgia have a waiting list of folks wanting the meat. I can just drop off the deer and they call the next person on the list.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
