HELLO! NEW GUY, NEW CROSSBOW! THE PHOENIX!

Post by PA GUY »

Hello All!

I'm Greg from Pennsylvania and after much consideration, i have ordered the phoenix package!

I have never owned a crossbow before so I have no idea what to expect.

This bow will be used 100% for Pennsylvania deer hunting.

What will be the max range of this bow?

Can I reasonable expect to shoot a deer at 40 yards?

At 30 yards?

What accessories should I buy that don't come with the package?

It was between this bow and the Ten Point Pro Fusion and I just hope I made the right decision.

Thanks

welcome to the forum you will find alot of knowledge here. you have made a great choice in the phoenix, thats what i shoot. as far as range practice practice practice get to know your bow a certain yardage and shoot whatever you are confortable with. i would not hesitate a 30 or 40 yard shot if everything was right and above all it was a clear shot. but some may only shoot 20 to 25 yards it all depends on what you are comfortable with.

welcome from ga pa guy. you have one of the best bows in the market. as for what you need with the bow did you get the right stuff package that has everything you need. as for the 40 yard shot it can be made but the main thing is practice practice and practice. the 30 yead shot is a litlle easier than the 40 but with it to the thing is practice. have fun with the phoenix thats what i shoot.

Traget shoot at 40 yards and you will see how long the bolt takes to get out there specially at 50 yards.
The deer has plenty of time to react.
Don't want to get into if it can be done or not.
Some people complain about string jumpers at 30 yards.

The phoenix in a nice bow, I just put one together for a freind of mine.
Shoots nice, a lot of fun!

I would get the cocking aid and the strinner aid.
That package comes with easton XX75 2216 bolts. Get a few more of those and keep some just for hunting.

Get an STS and stick with the stock string (get a back up one as well) until you know for sure that you will not dry-fire the bow.

You have one of the best bows money can buy. The customer service THE BEST out there. Get and STS system and be sure you get a Boo String. Read what others say about Boo Strings. Your bow should last a lifetime.
Good luck. I hope you take many deer.

Welcome friend
I think 40 yards is a reasonable shot at a relaxed unsuspecting animal
but at one that has busted you and is on full GTFO mode,I don't know
Each situation is different.
You will have to gain experiance and make that decision when it comes.
You cant go weong with the right stuff package to start.the right prople put it together.
Add a Boo string and a Groundpounder mount the upgrade later to some Crazy Farmer arrows and you are well on your way.

I hold my shots to 30 yards and under with my Phoenix. Not saying 40 isn't possible, but the odds of the deer moving at the sound of firing (string jump) would be a lot higher at 40. Also by the time the arrow reaches 40 yards it's dropping quickly, so range estimation becomes a lot more critical.

Hello PA GUY..

Post by BUDFIELDS »

WELCOME to the forum..

I am also a new crossbow archer myself. AFter bowhunting since 1964, I am physically unable to use a compound bow without enduring alot of pain.

I recently purchased a 2008 EXCALIBUR PHOENIX package and I LOVE IT!! As far as range... 30-40 yards should be NO PROBLEM but I suggest, as others did, PRACTICE..PRACTICE and MORE PRACTICE..

This is my FIRST SEASON hunting whotetail deer with a crossbow and I am having a BLAST!! I have had 3 shots..ALL AT 30 YARDS... and I have taken 3 DEER. ALL THREE SHOTS were complete penetration through BOTH shoulders and the arrow/bolt stuck in the ground.. EXCELLENT BLOODTRAIL and A SHORT RECOVERY DISTANCE..

You made a WISE choice in products and you will learn ALOT about crossbows here also. GREAT information from GREAT PEOPLE.

:D Welcome to the Worlds best crossbow forum .As for the distance thing it is a decision you will have to make .The only advice I can give new crossbow hunters is "It is not a gun ,limit your ranges "
