First compound buck.

Post by fuel80guy »

Well i finally shot my first buck with my Bear truth 2 compound,I realize this is a crossbow forum but im just tickled.I gave one series of rattles with my primos rattle bag and sure enough he came a looking for the source.I arrowed him at 20 yards broadside through both lungs and he trotted 50 yards and tipped over,,done.
I actually didnt even think i hit him as there was no noise at all of the arrow hitting anything.
I packed up and headed back to my truck which is about 1000 yards away and got my deer cart.It was almost dark by then.I roll him over to gut him and realize no knife,,,i had 2 in my truck which i since cant find.
So i guess im hauling him out fullbody.
The moment i load this buck on the cart i hear coyotes in the distance.
Well they got on the scent of this deer as soon as i moved him and the chase was on,,,me dragging the cart sounding like a mortally wounded deer tryiing to get away from a pack of coyotes.
Well i stopped with my heart beating probably beating 200 beats per minute and all i hear is leaves kicking up full speed right behind me.
These yotes were right on me till i caught my breathe enough to start screaming. They backed off but my god i thought i met my maker.
The buck is a small racked 6 pointer but he means alot more to me than i can explain.
Im going to take up predator hunting this winter and scare the life out of a few coyotes myself as now its personal.

Congrats and I agree with the yote hunting this winter deer numbers are low compared with last year. The yotes pop has increased alot. Need to learn how to call them in.

So what was more exciting..arrowing that buck, or putting the escape on those yotes?!?! Better than trying to evade the infamous Soutwestern Ontario cougar! lol!

Congrats on the harvest. Bows are bows! I own an Excal and a PSE compound. I love them both. You can never have enough toys.

Congrats on your buck.

Guys get the DVD called Bowmania, It's coyote hunting for archers. It will show you how to use the various calls to get the yotes in bow range. Just apply what you learn and use your crossbows. It's my favorite hunting video !!! Only cause I can't find Excals anywhere.
Have fun.
