just 5 more minutes...............

Post by Hoss »

I got down early. I was on my knees putting my climber together and i heard a twig snap..I turn around and look up wind 20 yds from me is 160 class buck !!! draw dropped looking around not even worried about me. I had just threw my climber on my back . I know he saw that.but hes in rut so he dont care..great my crossbow is still on the ground. I reach for it as I watch him he just starts walking away. I get my xbow but hes put limbs between us and hes walking away now..I bleat with my mouth and he keeps walking. where did he go..I look no buck.. I grab my doe bleat from my pocket and go to follow him..I bleat after 25yds..I hear him. hes calling back at me..I see him coming now hes to the left of me but still to many limbs in the way..now hes crosswind. He is looking my way but not very worried, still coming. Hes working his way down wind of me cause he isnt sure what i am..I move to stay down wind ..keep in mind he is only 30 yds from me LOOKING at me..I bleat again he calls back. Still working his way down wind..he is wanting to smell me..His ears say girl friend his loins say girl friend but justa small bit of mature buck says " you better check"..I see a window in the twigs and limbs. I hold my varizone there. come on big boy come on just a few more steps and this arrow is flying..DAMMIT he stops one step before the window..Its not looking good hes bobbing his head..CRAP..he winded me whirlled around and flew the coupe as fast as he could...WOW what a rush that was..some lunch and Im back out there..what a deal..5 more minutes in the tree and he would have been stuck...the joys of hunting the rut..todays the first day ive seen the bucks running..Its begun...LATER..

Great story Hoss. You had me on the edge of my seat reading it. We've all made that mistake.

Hoss, that is a great story and I'll bet your heart hasn't slowed much yet! It may never happen again, but if it doe to you or someone else, give them the head bob yourself! Especially if you are on your hands and knees. You might be amazed at the results. I could give some wild stories but probably most would scoff at them so I'll just leave it that sometimes things like this works and sometimes not.
Keep smiling!

Deer hunting deals excitement BIGTIME!!! It's moments like that that keep us interested in hunting.
