what do you dislike most about the shotgun hunt

Post by munch »

just wonder what you guys dislike.i think the thing for me is how when you talk to others they say well we didn,t get anything yet but we got some shooting in. i myself shot 1 deer it was 1 shot 1 deer just like when i bow hunt i wait for the right shot .i sat a lot this week and in the distance i could here guys empty there guns and some even reload for a couple more shots at 300 yards running full speed a cross an open field i think thats what they mean by we got nothing yet but we did get some shooting in. i wish the mnr would rethink deer drives as i think this is where a lot of this comes from and if you sat and waited you would have a good chance of getting a deer anyway .just my 2 cents

I love deer hunting period!!! With the Bow or with the Shotgun. The only thing i disliked about the shotgun hunt THIS year was the weather! If guys want to empty their guns at a deer over 200 yards that is there problem. I personally like hunters like that, it keeps the deer moving onto our farm~!!

I don't have a problem with guys pushing a bush lot but I am not entertained by them. I've been in a few small drives with very strict rules but still no fun to me. Some guys like it because it's social. One things for sure, no matter what there's always a bozo on the bus!

I agree, too many guys just "spray and pray" when they see a deer running across a field but if they are missing the deer (which seems to be the case most of the time) they're really doing nothing more than making noise and wasting ammo. Drives can be a very effective way to hunt deer if done properly and safely. I don't think I would say drives are a root cause of hunters doing stupid stuff. Stupidity is the root cause of hunters doing stupid stuff. Take the same guy who lauches lead at every running deer he sees on a drive and place him alone on a farm and he will empty his gun on every deer he sees meanering across a field and every brown and white flash he sees in a bush.

It's a week I'm not in the woods. And it usually coincides with the peak of the rut.

Nothing wrong with the shotgun hunt, nothing wrong with drives, maybe they should not be shooting at 300 yards but ethics are personal. I hate seeing this type of post, lets attack one hunters ethics, then no dogs allowed, the next thing is only stand hunting. Why not make crossbows illegal in Ontario for archery, get where I am going here.

Lets all take a moment to thank god that we have the ability to hunt, if you choose to do it as a social thing, to shoot a huge trophy, to put a little meat in the freezer or even to drop that first doe with fawns you see, these things are not illegal lets not give anyone else any more ammunition against us.

Could not agree more Fox. I also believe we are regulated to death in every facet of our lives. Let's not start aksing MNR to put more regs. in place.

Ditto~! But I cant say I dislike it. To some it is their hunt for the season and Im sure many have the same passion that we share but just with a shotgun~!

I agree with fox. If you not for hunting then your against it. If everyone got a type of hunting banned they didn't care for. Then there would be no hunting! I personally can't stand dog hunting, but you would never see me try to get it banned. It boils down to a black and white topic. Your for hunting, or your against hunting.

I dislike the number of guys roaming the bush. It makes me have to tread farther into the thick stuff to be alone. On the plus side, I do like to see hunters in the woods. We are always saying we need more to voice our concerns, so I take the good with the bad. Just wish I was seeing more young kids.

We were fortunate and this year we didn't see any others on the two local properties we have to hunt. We shotgun hunt like we bowhunt - we just carry a different weapon with slightly more range (even with a shotgun I don't want to be taking long shots).

I think what I dislike the most is when people lump us together with the yahoo shotgunners.

The reason for the shot gun hunt coinciding with the rut is to put down as many deer as permits permit. Managers need the numbers and the shot gun season is instrumental in getting numbers needed to manage the heard.

I personaly don't like the fact that it turns alot of deer nocturnal for weeks after the shotgun hunt is finished, it makes for tough bowhunting post shotgun. I personally do not participate in the shotgun hunt as I do not like to be in the bush in the areas I hunt at that time, (too many people in the bush for my liking). Again just my opinion, I have no problem with those that hunt it, I just do not have enough land to hunt to get away from the crowd.
