Broadhead data . . .

Post by sumner4991 »

Here are some numbers from the data supplied.

Broadhead kills . . .
Fixed blades
Slick Tricks . . .21, went an average of 33.5 yards
G-5 Montecs. . . 9, average of 66.25 yrds
Muzzys. . . 7, average of 64.3 yards
Wasps. . . 6, average of 90.7 yards
Boltcutters. . .5, average of 71.6 yards
Steelforce . . .2, average of 28.5 yards
Woodsman . . .2, average of 60 yards
Snuffers . . .2, average of 35 yards
Wac'em . . .1, went 30 yards
Easton Exterminator . . .1, went 50 yards

Mechanicals
Spitfires . . .9, average 41.8 yards
Rage . . .7, average 42.6 yards
Scorpion . . .2, average 20 yards
Stricknine . . .1, went 55 yards
Shockwave . . .1, went 50 yards
Hammerhead . . .1, went 15 yards
Steelhead . . .1, went 40 yards

Totals . . .

Fixed Blade . . .56, average of 49.83 yards
Mechanicals . . .22, average of 39.77 yards

There were some kills that I had the broadhead information but not the distance travelled after the shot. I included these in the "kill" numbers, but, didn't use them for the averages. Duh.

Not enough information to draw any conclusions. However, if I can keep track over a few seasons, then maybe the data will show some solid information.

Thanks to everyone that supplied the data.

If there's any more to report, then let me know I'll add them

Scott

Interesting numbers, and not at all what I would have expected. Chalk me up for a 15 yards sprint from a Hammerhead, I am back to the Slicks for #2.

Hey David,

Your Hammerhead shot is the only one recorded. I am starting to go back to last year and see if I can gather the data. I had two kills last year with the Hammerheads, one went nowhere and the other 20 yards.

We get requests all the time about which broadhead is best. This data should give those folks a little more to go on to make their decision.

There is too little data at this point to make any real conclusions. However, keep the data coming and we'll see how we end up.

Thanks,

Scott

good job putting this together:)

no matter which head, it still seems like a 50 yard recovery is the norm for a good shot 8) cant beat that no matter what

Looks like 4 blade fixed are putting them down quicker than 3 blades.
The slicks, and my 4 blade Wac'Em seem to be getting them to drop at close to 30 yards.
I'll try to do some more testing soon, got some replacement blades this past weekend.

Took a big doe last week at 10 yards she ran about 25 yards and stopped to look back ( I thought that I had missed ). I could then see it was a good double lung . She went to turn then piled up.

Used a 125 Magnus Snuffer . So far have taken 1 bear (dead in 30 secs an went about 30 yards ) and this doe with the same broadhead .

I do not know to me there are to many variables. Like was it a heart shot or one lung. Or if it was a double lung heart shot. And what if the deer was alert or relaxed. My experince is that they take about 10 to 15 seconds to die after a double lung shot. Sometimes they jump and run for twenty yards and wonder what just happened and then they fall over. Or if the deer knew something was up when the shot took place can run a long way in 15 seconds. Same shot but went different distance. Just my thoughts.

I just got tired of buying blades and wanted something that would have deep penetration . They are very reasonably priced fly very good and as you said guaranteed forever . The arrow that this broadhead is on now( thunderbolt ) has been thru 3 bear and 2 deer.
