I'm going on Wednesday to Gore Bay area. I found a place with an opening for rifle so the wife is coming with the kids as well. They're going to set up in a ground blind with my camera, tripod and telephoto lens.

My telephoto is made by Nikon and it's attached to a Remmy 700 stainless re-chambered to 338 Federal with handloads.

I used my additional a few weeks ago, so I still have an antlerless left. I've never shot a buck yet so I'm hoping. The guy who runs the place says the far stand has newly developed scrapes in the area. Can't wait!

Manitoulin Island is in the Province of Ontario, in Canada.

It is located on the Northern part of Lake Huron (one of the five Great Lakes). It is the largest fresh water island in the world, comprising of approx. of 2 677 sq km and there are 108 lakes on the island itself.

To cross the whole of the island from east to west will take 2hrs by car. Manitoulin is accessible by car (swing bridge) by boat (ferry from the tip of Tobomery (mainland) or by plane with the airport not to far from the City of Gore Bay.

It short it is a hiker's, bird watcher's, nature lover's, sailor's, fishermen's and hunter's paradise.

Property costs have increased dramatically recently but there was a time when it was surprisingly low and affordable.

Next year in 2009, me and the boys will celebrate 20 years of of landownership and hunting and fishing there. Amazing!

Not anymore this year.

Gun season on the Island opens this Monday and will last only 7days before it closes.

I will not be part of it this year ...plans had to be modified and i ended up hunting in mid October for 2 weeks. I plan on hunting in November of 2009 during the last week of bow and during all of the gun season to mark Our 20th anniversary of landownership.

I leave you with this:

"Are you a good shot", asked one hunter.
"No", was the reply.
"But I shoot often"
