Its killing me!!!!

Post by whitetailmad »

I am dying to go out. We had a good dusting of snow here with more on the way.

I am loosing my job so the wife had to go out and get a job to help make ends meet. So i am home with the kids. So grateful she got the job, takes some pressure off of me. that being said it is cutting to hunting time.LOL

The forecast has more snow on the way. I hoping to get out on Thursday.
I am hoping the food plots will really start to pick up now.

I like to bait later in the season. Does anyone know if the price of corn has gone way up this year. I need to go out and gets some.

The answer is to teach the kids to hunt with you.
My wife works second shift, so I take my 8 year old along frequently on evening hunts.
Corn is about double what it was last year here in Ohio, so I bought a spin-type feeder to control how much is used. The mistake I made was buying one with a light triggered cycle for feeding. Scared off a nice buck a few weeks ago when it decided to run as he was approaching.
I used to have one with a 24 hour timer I could set to throw corn at times I wouldn't be hunting (well before daylight and in mid-afternoon). That one worked much better for hunting.

Hey Whitetailmad! Welcome to my world!   Home with my son, hanging out here, thinking about how much I`d love to be able to go hunt, but can`t. By the time my husband gets home the day is over. Saturdays are precious and we take turns going out.

My little one is only 3. it will be a few years before she is ready.

I haven't priced corn here yet but I though it would be at least double. I have a light activated feeder as well.I think I am going to build one I seen in Ontario out of doors. page 18. With a few modifications to hold more corn.

im sure corn has gone up since we got paid more per bushel for it this year... 5bucks average compared to 3bucks from last year. I would expect whatever you buy to go up about 2-3 bucks per 20pound bag

Hey Whitetailmad,
I bought a couple of bags of corn at the Agrico in Fenelon Falls a few days ago and it was $10.50 a bag. That's up a bit from last year - I think it was about $8. You can expect corn to get continually more expensive as the demand for ethanol to supplement the production of "motion lotion" (gas) increases.

$7.50 - $8.99 per 40lb bag here

I'll get my next from the feed store.
100lb minimum

I put a big tub with a lid on the hitch carrier on my jeep to hold it.
