G'day folks! I've been on the forum for a few weeks and figured I should introduce myself.

I'm 40. I've been shacked up with my wife for 20 years. We have a boy (11) that loves hunting and shooting and a daughter (9) that loves coming out with us too.

I grew up an Army brat and spent most of my formative years in remote bases where I spent most of my free time in the bush. I grew up on moose, deer and small game meat because a poor soldier's pay was better spent on hunting than on freezer orders.

I've been a soldier, environmental controls / automation tech, and for the last 15 years I've been in IT. I'm a black belt in karate and kickboxing and close to it in Jiu Jitsu. I love riding motorcycles, especially "crotch rockets" and am addicted to long distance endurance rallies.

I've been hunting since I was a kid. I really got into bow hunting in the 90s and did that exlusively for about 10 years. I got back into rifle / shotgun hunting in 2002 when I inherited my Dad's gun collection. I had gotten my Dad into xbow hunting and also inherited his xbow. I started using that old xbow a few years ago but it was in bad shape. I broke my shooting shoulder when I dumped my crotch rocket in late August and figured I needed a new xbow, so I bit the bullet and bought the Phoenix package in October. My Dad (and I) had been drooling over the Excalibur brochures for years and now I finally have one and I absolutely love it. I put 4 bolts into a 1" square from 20 yds when I first went to sight it in. After 2 Robin Hoods I started picking separate corners of the target for each bolt. I had a problem with sighting in the Vari-zone scope beyond 20yds until I realized (from lurking here) that the zoom also controls the ranging of the scope. The manual doesn't quite make that clear or maybe I just skimmed over that section too quickly. I've got it dialed in now but I'm going to experiment with bolt sizes, strings, switching to carbon, trying 100grn heads etc in the off season. I wish my basement was 50 yards long sometimes...

Sadly with all the hunting I've done over the years, I've had much better luck hitting deer with my truck (5) and motorcycle (1). I've hit deer with my truck on the way to hunt deer. The Phoenix is going to change all that.

Oh, and did I mention I'm addicted to hunting? I'm going stir-crazy when I can't be in the woods. This is the worst year for it so far. Does it get worse over time?

Cheers,

Tom

Welcome Tom. Now if you have a choice between vehicles on hitting more deer, please chose the truck. Hitting them with the bike just is not fun!
Keep smiling!
