Second Rut in Southern Ontario..

Post by Bow Life »

Anyone have any idea when the deer will be coming into the second rut in Southern Ontario?

I was home last weekend and the bucks were following the does, that leads me to believe that it will be soon.

Anyone have any ideas?

Good luck to all still trying to fill tags.

Was out Sunday. Deer were on the move everywhere. Watched a small buck chase a doe and fawn around a field for 10 minutes. Saw one big buck on the prowl. Lots of does running around. I suspect the bucks were pushing them. We killed two does.

The secondary rut might be slowly starting to wind up but in reality, it is no where as hot as the rut proper. Either way, the bucks seem to be cruising a bit.

Do what I do. Go hunting regardelss of the rut or not. that way you can be sure not to miss it.

At this time of year I don't rattle, I use the grunt tube paringly and start looking for their winter feeding areas. Both does and bucks are feeding and in a couple of weeks, food will the best place to surprise all types of deer.

December is the month of monsters in my eyes. Those that can tough ou tthe conditions are usually rewarded with some of the best hunting of the year.

I agree. I love hunting in december, best sound in the world is the sound of the snow falling. Its nice to sit in the bush and watch it become enveloped in a sea of white.

I have been making the hour drive home for the past 3 or 4 weekends just to hunt. Generally when i get home i get right in the stand and don't leave until i have to come back to school. During this time i have been lucky enough to harvest my first and my second deer with my compound. Haven't really had much time so i will be sure to post the stories once I'm done my school for the month. I also had a shot at a monster but was unable to pull through. Hopefully my 25 days off will allow me to connect with a monster.

Best of luck to all.
