Southern Attack Score!

Post by Bayou Stalker »

This old gal was sneaking around and appeared out of nowhere about 60 yards out. The H&R 45/70 laid her down in her tracks. This is my first deer of the season, and killed on a small plot of 80 acres. I was hunting over a 100 yard rye grass food plot, so I left the Exomax at home.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!
That's a nice rifle, too.
The H&Rs are great guns at reasonable prices IMO.
I had one with a 45/70, a full choke 12ga w/rifle sights, and a .50 muzzleloading barrel all fit to the same action a few years back. Let a young man talk me into selling it to him, and I've missed it since.

I have an H&R with the camo thumbhole stock and forearm as well. I have a .243 and 30.06 barrel for it. I prefer the 30.06 but the wife and kids like the .243 . Congrats again

Thanks everyone. The pressure is now off.

I can use the 45-70 during the primitive firearms season here in Louisiana as well. It was purchased in black synthetic. I added the camo laminate thumbhole stock, and the matching forearm should be in on Monday. It has a Burris 4X20 mounted in Burris Zee low rings, and I trimmed the hammer to clear the scope with a dremmel. I've owned expensive bolt guns, but I just love this thing. I'm going to add a .270 or .280 barrel to it after the season is over.

Hey Kendell, where did you get the thumbhole stock? I also have a .45/70, have had it for a few years, I use the Remington 300 grain hollow point, best ammo I have found for deer, dont have to chase them with that combo. Curdog
