Nicknames

Post by VixChix »

Some of the guns in our collection have earned nicknames and I was wondering how many of us have given names to their guns or bows? Any of you want to share the stories that go along with those names?

My Mossberg with the brass tacks decoration on the stock got nicknamed "The Squaw Gun".

Some friends call my Savage 99 "The Engagement Gun" (Not really an engagement gift. They just thought it would be fun to spread the rumour that I got a gun instead of a ring).

My Ruger 30.06 will always be "Dad's Gun"

Your turn! :D

I have an old bolt action mossberg that was my father inlaws and he left it to me when he passed away, so once or twice a year I take it rabbit hunting and tell my wife I am going hunting with her dad. M&M

I have a Winchester 94 Ranger that I bought new about 20 years ago that is now known as "Ranger", A 20ga. Browning Citori that got nicknamed "The Featherduster", A 12ga. bolt action Mossberg that we've used for turkey shoots we call "The Turkeynator". I once traded a nice looking Gorosabel SxS for a Winchester Model 24 SxS and as soon as my wife saw it she called it "The Uglystick" and the name stuck. I used to get frustrated when I kicked up grouse while deer hunting with a rifle so I picked up a Savage 24 in 30-30 over 20ga. that soon got nicknamed "The Grouse Smiter".

Black synthetic stocked, Rem 700 in 280 is the Black Bitch (lovingly) never missed a shot at a deer. I retired her recently for a lighter gun (bad wings) but she never failed me. She's backup gun now and earned the rest.

I've got a well-used Ruger M77 in .30-'06 that has stacked up such a pile of deer meat that I now lovingly call it (with tongue-firmly-in-cheek) 'OL DEATH-WIND !

That rifle and I have been "down the river", for sure. I once let the 'WIND blow on a big 'ol sow bear at 15 feet ... on the ground ... while she was looking me right in the eye. One of my favorite hunting memory-moments. Nice rug, too! 8)

I guess the only downside of sinister-sounding firearm nicknames is the humiliation you must endure when your hunting efforts fail to procure the animal fired upon!

I know there have been occasions when wind was all some animals I've shot at felt!

My son nicknamed my .17 HMR, "Homer", he tried reading it one day on the ammo box and that is what he came up with. Suits it just fine.
