Favorite dish

Post by ecoaster »

Just wondering how everyone likes to prepare their venison.

My personal favorite is the back straps or roasts cut into 1" thick steaks and grilled on the BBQ with my homemade sauce.

I also love to make jerky in the smoker, venison meat ball, meatloaf, shepards pie, steaks baked in the oven with a cream sauce, and ocassionally drop a roast in the slow cooker.
I hunt for memories, the meat's a bonus!

Same here. Cooked meduim to medium rare and they melt in your mouth. I haven't tried doing a roast yet but I plan on doing one soon. Any tips on how to do one in the slow cooker?

Most used recipe in our house is a cast iron skillet full of thin sliced (1/2") backstraps browned up then a can of golden mushroom soup added. Cover & simmer while the biscuits bake and the side dish heats (usually corn) then enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!
When we get tired of that we can switch to cornbread & beans on the side.  (seems like we never get tired of the backstraps)

Edited to add:
Just had a variation today for lunch - cream of mushroom instead of golden mushroom soup.
12 oz package of thin sliced backstraps
1 can cream of mushroom soup
homemade potato bread
baked potato
NO LEFTOVERS to deal with!

:P My favorite way to do a venison roast in the slowcooker is to slice 2 onions and 5 cloves of garlic and add a bottle of classico spicy red pepper sauce cook on low for 8 hours. You won't be disapointed.
Enjoy MIKE

slow cooker for 8-10 hrs... Prep it the night before, plug it in before work and its ready when you get home... tastes great and prep time is at your leisure...

2-4lbs of venison cut into small 1/2" cubes....
4 - 5 potatoes cut into small cubes
3-4 carrots cut into small cubes
1 onion diced up
1.5 cups of beer or red wine
salt-pepper
.5 cup chicken broth
2-3 celery cut into small cubes

this recipe will work with all game meat….

Ecoasters meatballs. He brought some over yesterday, very good!!!!

I use venison in many dishes: pasta, roast, stew, chili, bbq'd. It's all good!! I do have one favourite marinade I use. It's made even better by cooking the venny on a charcoal grill.
