Long Time No Chat

Post by John Wade »

Off list for some time. Reasons too many to mention. Had a good season, more opportunities then I've ever had in the past but passed on everything. I'm getting soft maybe but there was enough meat in the freezer to see me through to next year anyway. Made a nice movie on one deer hunt with a camera I bought for work. Funny ending though, I got busted by a doe behind my hiding spot and when she snorted I was so focused on the deer in front of me the camera and I jumped in fright in a very not-so-still hunting manner. Too funny to edit it out of the movie. Nobody but hunters "get it." I'm pretty sure I could play it in a crowd and pick out the hunters based on the guffaws when the camera goes flying. I'd like to do more of that and will come turkey season without the getting busted part.

On another note, does anyone know where I can get a legitimate recording of a rabbit in distress? I can't use a call, it as to be a high quality recording of the real deal. It doesn't have to be long, just a few seconds. I was going to say don't ask, but I might as well explain why. I have a book about to launch about preparing a dog for a baby's arrival and the sound of a baby's cry and the rabbit scream are almost indistinguishable. I have a section in the book about desensitizing a dog to crying with this as part of the rationale and want a recording of the real thing to make a point on the web site.

And another note, towards the end of March, I'm giving an unrelated presentation at a conference in Hutto Texas and I just heard I'm staying in Round Rock TX I think this all in the Austin area. Anybody know the area? Should I be booking extra time to do some sight seeing? It's my first time in Texas. I wonder if that bull Fu Manchu is still around?

Great to see your back. Love the small story. I pictured the whole thing. Wonder if you would put that on photobucket so we can enjoy the event also?

Hey John! Welcome back! Your name came up at the recent 3D fun-shoot-meet-up as someone that we'd missed hearing from this season. Nice to "see" you here again.

The link is below, however please read all of the following before playing it following it:

1. From what I understand you have to use Quicktime to play it or you don't get anywhere near the full effect. You can download that for free if you don't already have it. There's a paid version and a free version. Here's the link if you don't have it. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

2. It's a very large file. I wanted to keep the high definition and it wasn't really for anyone other then me as an exercise in how to use the camera and turn it into a movie of sorts. So, it will take a looooooooong time to load, so let it load all the way if you want to get the full effect. Don't even try if you have dial up.

3. One of the "stars" of the movie is on this list. You never see him but if you watch carefully he'll make his presence known. I'll leave it to him to post as to his "role" and what happened although the experienced hunters will be able to gauge what happened on the basis of the deer's behavior. (Kent, you did tell me to post this remember!) LOL, no ROFL, no ROFLMAO

4. Keep this link on list. Don't distribute it. As I said it's meant for personal pleasure and a few friends, and I want to respect the royalty rights of the artists. (Which I thought meshed really well with how a lot of outdoorsmen feel) Plus I don't want to use up a ton of bandwidth as I'm paying for the hosting, not something like PhotoBucket.

5. Remember this is the first time I've used a video camera or edit film. Don't expect National Geographic, never the less, it makes me feel good watching it, reliving a bit of the season, maybe it will you too
