Pennsylvania passes full crossbow inclusion...

Post by Woody Williams »

In a 4-3 vote today, the Pennsylvania Game Commission approved the full inclusion of Crossbows during archery season for next fall. They made several concessions to the anti-crossbow forces led by the United Bowhunters of Pennsylvania, in that "magnifying optics" (scopes) will not be allowed to be used on crossbows and this ruling will sunset in 2012 (unless renewed by the PGC).

congrulations on that battle. Xbows shoot just as well without the scope as with it. That certainly makes no big deal

Great deal! I believe Pennsylvania's law will be for a "magnified" scope so red-dots will be good to go. Is the Lumi-Zone scope a magnified sight???

Pennsylvania --full xbow inclusion

That is great as it should allow more people to have access to archery hunting. Hopefully the scope issue will go by the wayside.

Thats great news. I sure hope they drop the magnified scope thing. I wish hunters would spend more time fighting the anti's rather than other hunters.

Perhaps once the other archery hunters see that crossbows aren't going to impact their hunting all that much the opposition will dwindle.

Mike,

I don't think so. I think that PA will treat all crossbowers the same now. When this has been signed and done there will be no physically challenged permits anymore.

It will be crossbows for anyone who wants to use one.. but it will be the same rules for everyone. I can see their point in the same rules for everyone. I don't see their point in no magnification optics.

It sucks that I have to take my scope off. In my zone a crossbow has always been legal. I hope Pa sees the light

My guess is they feel a telescopic sight will extend the range of the weapon.

Most of us know the sight will not alter the trajectory of our projectile.
Some vertical archers might feel that a magnified scope gives us an unfair advantage. I wonder though, if their old law prohibited the verticle archers from using magnificication.

The no magnification applies to all bows, not just crossbows.

I think this no magnification rule and the "sunset" was the PGC throwing a bone to the UBP.
