SCORE Model 94 1 Coyote 0 pics

Post by fletch »

Hi everyone lowered the coyote pop by 1 in the bush we deer hunt. Old model 94 30-30 worked just fine. My buddy Gary and I went out because the deer numbers where we hunt were down considerably. We noticed lots of coyote tracks so we thought we would give it a try. Gary picked up a little electronic call for ten bucks, packed his Ruger 44 for company and I grabbed the model 94, which hasn't been shot in 20 years, which was my grandfathers. The snow is extremely deep right now in the fields and bush so we opted to take his father-in-laws Arctic Cat, made the way in so much easier. We packed the snowshoes to use once we got there. After finding out the bindings on 1 pair were extremely dry and brittle :x we used nylon rope to sub for bindings. Setup the first spot called for 20 mins no response so we put on the snowshoes and headed farther in to the bush. Gary perched in a tree stand and I leaned against an old fence about 70 yards from him. I hit the call for about 10 mins and then out of the corner of my eye I notice movement to my right. Holy crap there is a coyote at 30-35 yds along the same fenceline. My gun is leaned up against the fence the call is in my hands and she is watching me. I slowly reach down and she busts me, runs 5 yds back but stops to take a look, wrong move. This is the result.....

Very nice! Very few things can get a heart pumping than a coyote in the crosshairs!
Congrats guys, a job well done.

It will be interesting to see what the deer population will be this year also. Predators, combined with another harsh winter will certainly take it's toll.
