Squirrels are thick in the yard today

Post by wabi »

Here in town we have a few squirrels that keep a close watch on the bird feeders, but it's rare to even see two at once. Today there were 5 in the catalpa tree in the back yard! Guess the season  has the out in numbers!
Hard to catch them still enough for a pic, but here's 1 of the many I took.

Yep. They have been tearing up the yard and gardens here looking for their fall stashes. The dogs are loving the "moving targets" :D . They haven't connected yet.
I hunt for memories, the meat's a bonus!

I was using picasa to store the pics online and the pic wasn't showing up in the post - just an empty box with a red X in it.
I transferred the pic over to photobucket, so now it's showing up fine in the post.

I was in Canada once with the wife and went to a park across
from Niagria Falls. Place was full of solid black squirrels.
We got fox squirrels here. Twice the size of grays and reddish
orange. Before deer got plentiful I ate a lot of squirrel gravy
and biscuits.

About the same as wild rabbit.
I can't believe you've never tasted squirrel.
Have you ever tasted turtle meat , Mike.
What about rattle snake. There's a shooting club called Cherokee rod &
gun that has a wild game feed every year. You name it & they have it. :D

Mike J , What you gonna do if all the supermarkets should close down.
If you get hungry enough, rattlesnake might start looking pretty good.
