Home made cheek

Post by roly »

Last week someone said they used a Pipe insulater as a cheek piece

How do you stop it from sliding back and forth. :?:

A small strip of two sided 3M tape or a drop or two of glue.

I did mine a little different. I took a hot glue gun and put some on the stock and then put my pipe insulation. If you later want to remove it all you have to do is pull off the insulation and then peel the hot glue off. It will not damage your camo on the stock either. I took mine off in anticipation of my new cheek pieces arrival but it still hasn't got here. If it's not in by Thursday I will put my insulation back on as Saturday is the first day of turkey season here.

Two sided tape, the kind used to tape down carpet. Cover the inside of the cheekpiece with the tape and put it in place. Only problem, the foam rubber cheekpieces are a bit noisy.

Sounds similar to mine, I have a double layer neoprene that I made, it has a zipper on each side.
I use it to keep some basics in, TP, spare string, home made stringer, basic first aid and the array of good luck notes from my kids.
The other side has a more elaborate first aid kit, cable saw, mirror, micro whistle, matches, Allen wrenches and lots of other junk.

The neoprene is silent, and very warm to keep held to the cheek. It is without doubt the best addition I have made to my bow.

cheek pc

Post by Leonard Hawkins »

I just did mine with pipe wrap and it already had the tape at the split. I just cut off 2 pcs for my
excals and stuck it on. It doesnt move at all. Hawk ( the pipe wrap is the insulation tubing, did this 2 years ago and had to tape them on , but new tubing has the tape.)

Yeah ... it doesn't work good for me, either. The whisker stubble on my shaved upper face is too coarse. It acts like Velcro, grabbing the insulation whenever I move, and making a rasping noise ... eventually, it tears it up. :(

I too did not like the feel/sound of beard stubble on foam (I don't always shave in the morning before hunting  ), so I made one out of a hardwood dowel.

cheekpiece

Post by Earl D. Woodyard, Jr. »

I got my pipe insulation from Home Depot. It came with two sided tape already on it.
Once I cut the piece and put it in place on the stock. I covered it with Allen
cloth bow tape in hard woods camo. I got the Allen cloth camo bow tape from the Bowhunters Superstore in Pa. It comes in a 2inch x10 ft. roll. I think I paid less than $5.00 for the roll of a few years back. I also wrap the same camo cloth tape around the bottom of the crossbow's stirrup to stop it from getting beat up. This Allen camo tape realy matchs up well with the Excalibur Hardwoods camo.
