sts install question

I am trying to install a STS and was wondering what are the two little strings for. That you get in the package with the parts. Thay are about 5 inches long.

The strings are there so you can add to the serving on the string for the stoppers.

I think most people do not use those strings that are supplied. I know I didnt. When I had a custom string made, It was advised that I dont add string there(slows it down)
