It was too tough, it was an older trophy chrony!

Well, they taste like salty tears and gutting is not nessesary, fast moving projectiles do that instantly for you.

Farmer, how do the two compare in terms of repeatability?

I like to do a three shot string and believe the lowest number. Most of the time my chrono will repeat within 1 or 2 fps. I was curious about the flip open style and could have saved a few $$$ but I decided to release the monetary prisoners and get the pro.
Bob, I've got the same model you have. I'm curious on your 'repeatability' question. I've noticed a few fps variation in the readings on mine, but assumed they were due to arrow fps changes.

I can't get mine to read if it's in my shop, gotta set it on tailgate of my truck and offhand over it.

If you use it in the shop you'll need a strong light over the chronograph to get a reading.

Cloudy day is best for a chrony, diffusers on a bright day.
The do not work indoors because they are reading the 60 cycle per second (60Hz) from the hydro source.

I have the same model as pictured. Got it for $89 on sale at Midway USA.
Repeatability is really good and I attribute fps variation to the bolt but usually within a few single digits only.

As stated above cloudy days are best. One needs an even diffused light for best repeatable results. Do not try to use it with trees overhead on a sunny day. The shifting light patterns through the leaves will throw the chrony off especially if there is a little wind.

Chrony should be 10 feet away at least from a muzzle and at least an arrow length for bow/x-bow.
