I live in Scarborough near the bluffs and my daughter saw three deer walking along an asphalt road a block away at midnight so seeing deer in the city if you are near treed areas isn't so unusual. Two years ago a friend of my other daughter had a turkey in their backyard and they are four block away.
Kinda lucky here. Ive seen coyote, fox, black bear, moose, whitetail, mule deer, elk, wolf( at work just outside of city limits) and once saw a mountain goat that decide the local civic center looked like a mountain to climb. It is suprising what funnels a deer will use to move from point a to b.
Last year I had to go rope a deer that jumped a fence in town and was too weak to get back over again. That was smack in the middle of a small town.

One of the biggest bucks I've ever seen in North Carolina was standing within the "city limits" of our county seat (Columbia, pop. 750 ) on a moonlit night.
I've seen plenty of deer within city limits. In Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, and Mississauga. They are safe. No hunting, and generally no predators.
