BigBwanaD wrote:Great bird Crazy and what a way to start this off! You're entered in the contest but I have not scored this one as your entry until you officially notify. For all involved, we need pic of both spurs measured as they will be totalled and then added to your score. Crazy, is the other spur 7/8's as well? If so, just add the pic to this posting.
Ill notify you by midnight on next Saturday if I do decide to enter him. Its another bird im after which should be a tad bigger so im going to try him if I can hunt next week any. But yes the other spur is 7/8ths, actaully its a nick over but im not sure how you want to round them. I always measure with a peice of flexible wire(same as my B&C scoring) but im getting a nick over 7/8ths while the other is 7/8ths exactly. Here is the pic of you want to give you opinion. Its hard to get the tape measure on the spur and snap the pic so im trying to get it the best possible to match the wire measurement. Just let me know how you would score that if entered.

as for the wet bird comments... well we had about 1/2th of rain during the night so everything was wet. After the shot, he decided to flop 50 yards down the ridge into the stream to take his last bath LOL. I will say he wasnt the only thing wet during and after the hunt LOL. I got soaked from hitting tree limbs bringing him back out.

Nice bird and a paint brush beard also.Cool.

Some of our birds have some sort of swamp rot and their beards fall off.

bascially the same as the eastern turkey, but they have more white on their tail feathers.

I really want to hunt one of those oneday 8)

Sax, ive killed a 4 year old bird one year that had 8 inches of his rotted off. Only one strand was left. He had 1 1/4th inch spurs and the longest strand was 11.5 inches, but 90% of the bread was gone and he was in rough shape. I hunted him for 2 years with no luck and when I finally got him he was worn out.

We get beard rot in the north here quite often.
not sure what it is , some say it's from the deep snow and it freezes and brakes off , but don't quote me on that!!
