Basically, you take part of one feather & part of another, and they become ONE of the feathers in your fletching.

True Flight shows splicing in their guide, with a link to examples:

It can look VERY cool.

Im going to try feathers on my 2219s with the 150 bolt cutters in my equinox this year. alminums are straighter then carbons. The feathers give a better FOC and I love K.E

Or you can do what I do and fletch your bolts with feathers from wild turkeys you harvested. They're the best looking of them all. I also use a hip quiver and have had no problems at all with the durability of my feather fletching. Yes you do have to replace the odd one but the same goes for vanes. TC

Feathers are a wonderful thing but don't forget to waterproof them!

Yes ... it's an essential step.

I prefer Fletch-Dry.

By the way, guys ... Three Rivers (the company whose link Boo listed) is a wonderful source for all things traditional, and a nice bunch of folks to order from and work with, in my opinion and experience.

The sprays and powders work fine, but being old school I still have and dip the fletched end into a quart can of liquid silicon, stand'em up and allow to dry. No scent, no discoloration, complete coverage, lasts all season and does not effect the natural properties of the feathers :)

HI,
FEATHER in my opinion :
reduce the speed and do not tollerated wet-rain-snow, but they are lighter so you can increase FOC , remember to use all RW or LW for the same bolt (also with a strech fleching they make round more the bolt)
VANES are faster ,quiter, more resistet to the weather
For traditional verticalbow without rest expecially for my yew longbow handmade I use 4 swan feathers 3,5''long elicoidal fleching, for my ExoManX 3 mini blazer 1,5'' with 3º inclination and 25% FOC.
Hope to be usefull
