had this cook up this weekend..cooked to perfection in a garbage can :wink: 20 lb turkey with a 5 lb venison roast...with a ham done on the outside..
will post a few more pics in a min..as im not smart enough to add them all at once :oops:

kind of looked like ET..hence the name for the subject..

well i had to use something to hold the ham up..lol i did get some strange looks,hauling it over to the pit..
i told them i needed to burn it in case i ran out of charcoal..

just google up garbage can turkey..lots of info there..
i learned all of my info on this from a bunch of great guys from Windsor i met while moose hunting up in wmu#9..
but the stand in this thead is my own design..
i,ll try and find a pic of just the stand by itself..

after an hour of cooking ..the venison roast was done..took that off the spit and cooked the turkey for about a another hour..
if you notice the wires in the set up..they were thermometers used to keep the temps of the 3 different cuts of meat..
heres the venison roast done to med rare...

I am a little curious regarding galvanized garbage cans.

Is it not possible for zinc to permeate the meat being cooked if using a galvanized can. I only ask this as I am familiar with the galvanizing process.

Do you go through several burns with the can to purge off the zinc prior to actually cooking food?

Mike......the inside of the can had a tiger torch put to it it to burn out the zinc..as another safe guard,i made the can a fire pit for a bit :wink: ..

Shoot, Mike ... we cooked in garbage cans all the time while I was growing up ... :shock: ... and it nvere hrtu em nya ... nreve htur me yan ... evner tuhr em any ... :P
