Persistance pays off ! ... CH and his father in law score !

Post by R.J. »

Chris H. ( forum handle = CH ) and his father in law have been hunting hard since opening day ...

So far they have not been able to " close the deal " = birds doing crazy moves etc. and an increased hunting pressure in the area hasn't helped either ..

Today things were different ... they made a plan last night , and stuck to it ...

Long story short ... they figured the birds out this morning and were " one step ahead " instead of " one step behind ! "

Together , they connected on two beauty mature tom's .... One was darker faze and 1 was lighter faze ...

Chris dropped the hammer on one bird and the other bird ran to his father in laws set up a few seconds later ...

Chris took the birds to the official weigh scales in New Hamburg at the feed store ...

1 bird was 22lbs 10oz's , with an 8 inch beard ... the other was 18lbs even with a 10 inch beard ...

Here is a picture with Chris and the pair ...

Spur length average was 1 inch ( some just under , some over )

Congrat's Chris and Skip ! .... way to stick with it !

Congrats R.J. for tagging both nice toms, and for the great pictures as usual.
Also congrats to C.H. for hanging in there and finally tagging his first bird of the season, and to Skip for tagging is first turkey ever, that must have been a real thrill for him, I guess he is hooked now forever.
Wishing all of you the wind at your back,
Good friends by your side,
and a lifetime of adventures ahead.

Thanks Vern ... yep one mature tom on opener for me with my Hatsun Escort and another mature tom 7 days later with my Y25 Relayer ( Sounds easy , but you know me , I did put my time in with preseason scouting and lots of moving around from farm to farm ! )

As for Chris and Skips birds ... yep , two beauty toms ! .... They have been giving them the slip since opening day , but it all came together this morning !
