yes my 1st turkey

Post by the frenchman »

hi to all
1st i would like to thank's the forum members that takes time to answer our questions evendo sometime they are repeately

my 1st tom and with my exomax and i was very lucky

got in my set up at 4:55am at 5;00stated to ear the gobble just beside me + on the other side of the land

5:10 i can see some turkey far in the field but ther're not coming toward me but still ear the gobble beside me but going further away at around

5:35 i can see 1 tom coming towards meat around 200yards and then on my far right 3 tom +1 hen
after another hen coming towards my turkeys(dummy)then suddenly the toms that were beside me went around the bush into the field to my left, and them to are coming towards me
so now i see 6 toms and 2 hens between 75to150yards approx

at this point i am looking in my scope and trying not to move even if i am very nervous (never saw so many turkeys coming to me)
so one of the tom stop at about 60 yards and then turn right he was the one coming towards me at 5:35

after the 2 toms that were beside me decided to advance (in the field i had some rocks set up at 20,30,40,yards) when they arrived at 30 yards, i thought they were at 20 yards because i made a mistake with the rocks
so i decide to shoot at 20 yards but the shot landed in front of the tom
i was wondering why so then i looked and i saw that i had took the wrong rock but they (the 2 toms) did not fly away they just step back and started to walk away but very slow
but i was sitting down so i decided to try to cock my crossbow sitting down very slowly and it worked

as the 2 toms were walking away 2 more toms decided to come towards me and at 30 yards i decided to shoot and bang goes the turkey but it was not dead but could not walk just flapping his wings so then the 2 toms that were walking away came back and all the other turkeys just stay where they were it was now 6:10

that is when i decided to take pictures and at that point i was moving and all turkey just stay there and looking at the tom that was down

I waited 10 minutes and then got up and advance that is when they all flew away
what an experience that was for me
and now here are some pictures that i took

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't hunt this spring (too busy & scarcity of turkeys on the farm I hunt - they moved to the state nature preserve next door & hunting is a big no-no there), but it looks like a lot of members have had good luck this spring!
