New Vortex Owner

Post by zeke@pa »

Newbie checking in. Pa is going to allow crossbows for archery now, so I decided to pick one up. Doing some research and lurking I had pretty much decided on the Excalibur because of the recurve design, I had it narrowed down to the Vortex or Ibex for the Excalibur, but wanted to checkout some compounds designs just to make sure. I went to Bass Pro and Cabela's to have a look in person. I thought they would have a nice selection to look over. I was wrong on that count, they both only had 5 or 6 xbows. Giving them a look over the compounds were noticeably heavier than the Excalibur. I ended up with a Vortex from Cabela's, and a few accessories, rope cocker, Excaliber bolts and some practice tips 100 gr. It will be awhile until I get a chance to shoot it. Until then I'll be shopping for more accessories.

Still need to get a scope (still doing some reading).
Quiver mount I'm thinking the groundpounder mount.
Quiver haven't even looked yet open to suggestions.

Thanks to all the good folks here for all the useful info. From what I've read so far, this site reminds me a lot of anther site I spend a lot of time on.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Keep the thinking caps on. I'm sure I've got some questions coming.

I am a vortex owner as well & you will enjoy every minute with that bow...
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

welcome... its good to see plenty PA guys/gals here now :D

btw, if you need any custom arrows in the future shoot me a PM;)

later one you might want to look into a Boo string and a groundpounder mount. Munch makes mounts here also for the quivers

I'll be looking you up in the future for some of your handy work. I need to finish collecting some accessories like a scope first. I'm really leaning towards the Hawke, I'm thinking I'll have to use the arrow weight to get the aiming circle to match up where I want them.

Already exchanged a couple of PM's with groundpounder on the mounts.

I should shoot Boo a PM to get on the list for a couple of strings, I saw one recent post where they're was about a 40 person back log.
