The Waiting Game

Post by Normous »

Last Saturday I got to assist bellerivercrossbowhunter (Jeff) harvest a nice Tom. The memory is unforgetable. Today we got our patience and hunting skill tested. At 11 am I took this nice Tom at 32 yards in an open field without any cover.

We watched two Toms struting for a considerable time in the same place that Jeff shot his last week. When eventually they retreated from the open field to the safety of the bush we quickly made our move.

We tried to make it to the nearest cover, but did not make it when he reappeared again. So we hit the deck in the open field. Jeff was on my right and I stuck the hen decoy to my right, the three of us shoulder to shoulder.

A few seductive hen calls had him approaching slowly and in full strut. Little did he know the the camo looking clumps next to the hen were very serious.

One's spine sure takes a jolt when firing turkey loads in the prone position. Not recommended for those with back problems.

This is my first turkey.

That will be a hunt I will never forget. My heart was pounding when that Tom was approaching. Man what a rush...... :)

I just found out Mom would fresh prefer turkey for Mothers day. How cool is that with the timing.

Vix- I will utilize all my resources to put one in front of Patti. She is determined to use the Vortex.
