Texas OKs Crossbows.....

Post by Woody Williams »

I understand that the Texas Senate has overwhelmingly approved HB968, making the use of crossbows during archery season legal in all Texas counties with the exception of Grayson county.

Two housekeeping measures remain, original sponsor Representative Mark Homer must concur with the Grayson county exception, which he says he will do, and Governor Rick Perry must sign the bill into law.

Supposedly Governor Perry has also given his word to approve the measure....

Get your crossbow early

Post by dlzinck »

I have heard, from my local Excalibur dealer, that because of PA an Mich (two of the largest hunting states) that crossbows will be in short supply this fall.

Now lets add Texas to the mix and you better get your crossbows early.

What's the deal on the Grayson County exception? It's giving Grayson County a bad name . . .I hunt in Grayson County, Virginia.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

Go Texans ! It is nice to see all these states that are finally wakeing up an realizing the crossbow is not the EVIL TOOL IT HAS BEEN MADE OUT TO BE. Now if N.Y. would only get it's head out of the sand!!!! Maybe someday it will happen , I hope I live long enough to see it. I'm off my soap box now.

I was in a sporting goods/hunting store in N.C. 3 weeks ago that had plenty of xbows that I bet they would be glad to get rid of. They aparently stocked up in anticipation of xbows passing and then 10 letter writers postponed it for a year.

The people of Grayson County are very strange. Not only will crossbows not be allowed, Grayson County is the only county in the entire state that does not allow rifles to be used to take whitetails.

That county does have deer, but nothing like the density of deer in other area's such as where I am from, the Texas Hill Country, and in particular, the Edwards Plateau.

I have mixed opinions about how they are going about things. I think their philosophy and reasoning is flawed. But archery only will indeed allow their herd to grow.
