It`s Over
After chasing this bird off and on for 4 days .He made a deadly mistake .
Now the story.
My odyssey began on last monday before the long weekend .He came in from behind me with one of his cohorts . Saturday he gobbled but stood steadfast in the thickest junk imaginable . Monday morning we ended up walking in under him on our way in he did not bust so we were oblivious to his whereabouts UNTIL he gobbled REPEATEDLY .
But the one chink in his armor was he liked to go to this one spot to strut and gobble .
So this morning after working all night making you know what .I rushed up to the bush .Got there at about 6:05 got dressed and proceeded to walk back in . When I got to the creek crossing I could hear him yodelling away in his strut zone .So now the rush was really on for I wanted to be on his route back out. I made it through the bush walking on what seemed and sounded like broken glass .( darn little branches)
I got to a point about 75 yards from him going by the gobbles . Then all of a sudden he stopped his serenading the ladies .I thought it prudent to sit down now . It`s now 6:30
I`m sitting there thinking "oh great now I`ve got to close and busted him" when out of the corner of my eye .I catch movement it is a lone doe wandering through between me and the last place he gobbled .(please don`t blow, please don`t blow )She proceeds to continue on her way .
I then catch movement to my slight right .He is coming through all quiet .I take the gun now from my right shoulder and place it on my left .Force myself to close my right eye .(I normally shoot both eyes open)He stepped into a hole and KABOOM !!!!! Let me tell you shooting wrong way is a interesting thing . No scope eye but it did move my hat .
He was shot at approx. 35 yards.
Upon further inspection he was born a mutant .He has next to no tail feathers .Not even holes of where maybe they had come out .
Here is picture by the log where he came to rest .
A picture of the HUGE fan .
