Spring Bear Idaho Hunt

Post by aerostarp »

Just got back from Idaho from a Spring Bear Hunt with my 2 sons. My 12 y/o got this nice bear with his .243 Win. He has had quite a first year hunting with me: pheasant, white-tail buck and bear.

Actually, it is a black bear. Idaho has many color phase bears: chocolate, blonde, cinnamon etc. You would have to look hard to find a black one like on the east coast.

Thanks for the compliments.

The locals called it Chocolate. I have seen some Cinnamon bears in Northern PA that were brownish also but slightly lighter.

385. Pretty big for a spring bear just out of hibernation and especially in Idaho. They put on at least 100 more pounds before denning up in the Fall.

He shot it with his .243 Win. loaded with 100gr. Nosler Partitions which I reloaded for him before our hunt. Heck - I'm glad it wasn't much bigger.

Your son is a lucky boy! Congratulations! What is with the dog beside the tree in the second picture?

He looks depressed, doesn't he. I guess he is sad to see the action over and done with.
