This subject is one I PAY close attention to as whatever decisions are made they affect me and my family greatly.
I have many complaints about our system but it did save my sorry @$$.
But.We are correct in knowing that something has to be done, someone needs to fix this,They are doing it to us.They don't care about us.
I think about what makes scense to me based on my life experiance (scary thought) which is usualy wrong.
When you go through the american stsyem and you are firsrt put in the chair for Dialysis you sign papers that day for medicare and medicade card, all is well, wrong,I have a primary innsurance,OK,we have to do it this way well then I lost that insurance because my employer wouldn't hire me back as promised and i lost that.It took me 6 months to recieve a disability payment so for six months I did Dialysis, worked full time at the glass shop and played sax 4 nights a week just to keep our heads above water waiting for my disability and with severly limited income. My medicial bills add up to more than I can earn in my projected lifetime.
I hope it gets fixed

I hope you caught my meaning for using words like THEY need to fix it and SOMEBODY need to do SOMETHING.
Well,Americans if we want it fixed then let's let our voting be our voice of choice and then hold these people accountable for their actions.

You are #1 in your health care system.

As flawed as we think our healthcare is , it is there no matter your income . I remember seeing a comic year or so ago on TV playing a doctor . He checked the patients wallet before checking his pulse .
Sad but true .

:D :D It is such a relief to know that when we need medical help it is there now, not down the road when we can afford it. In the last few years the wife has discovered that at times they seem to move too fast, but while lying in hospital ,all the worries you have are getting well.

Waiting times ( in an emergency room ) and trying to get a family Doctor can be horrendous . ( many people are with out a family physican ) . The provincial government has been looking to / or / are closing some of the hospitals in smaller community's .

Many of the young people that go to medical school here end up going to the USA to practice as they can earn more money . Not sure if is as bad as before but our medical system put caps on what a Dr could earn per year etc .

Our system is far from perfect but I know that I can walk into any hospital in the province and recieve treatment .

Our prices are getting outrageous...esp if you don't have insurance. Insurance co.s cut a deal with the medical care providers, so the [price of any procedure is discounted, often by 50%. But those without insurance must pay the full price. My wife just picked up two pieces of latex for the mask of her cpap machine. The undiscounted price was $179! Two pieces of latex about the size of a small glass coaster!!!!! I realize that there is considerable overhead associated with medicine, but that is just plain OUTRAGEOUS.

the biggest problem we have is wait times .you could sit in a waiting room for 4 to 5 hours easy DUTCH
  Which hospital are you going to, if I had to drive three hours to yours, I'd still shave two hours off the wait time at my local Hosp.
Make that a 7 hours overnighter in the emergency for me and my son during the week. Hard to go to work or to school in the morning. Son had split his lower lip real bad and needed some suture points. Of course those un-confortable wooden chairs are so good for your back.

The problem with US Health Care is two-fold - insurance companies and the gov't - neither of which knows anything about health care. If we go to a National Heath Care System the older you are the less care you are going to get. I don't know about Canada but in the US National Health Care is not about better care for the people, it is about votes which equals power and control - which is all our current gov't is interested in.

i couldn't agree more, as much as i hate to say it michael moore made a good movie about the us healthcare system, in it he also did a comparison to canada

hey guy's i think i'm moving up to Canada.

anyway i do have relatives that live in Germany and they have nothing but good things to say about the German health care system. it's mind boggling to my German aunt who can not understand why people in the US go thru life with bad or missing teeth?? a country as great as this and people are losing health care because they get layed off from their job.

why is it the people who are fighting socialized health care in the US never use Germany's health care system as an example!! very simple because it's socialized health care and it works!

Bless our hearts for having the health care system we have. I know people who travel the world and come back home for hospital visits. We do pay higher taxes, and are called socialists by you guys, but we have free health care, second to very few in this world.

It may not be perfect, but it is GOOD.

Our health care is good not great but good. We pay for it every week through our taxes, for people to think it is free, that is wrong. we pay for it in advance. The US has an optional insurance plan, Canadians don't have that option, we pay into that plan before we get our pay check each week. Don't get me wrong I have no problem paying my share, its just not free. Dental care is not covered by our health care system. We need to pay cash or take out insurance for dental and eye work is not covered either. There are some other things that are not covered by our health care system. One of the biggest draw backs for the general public is waiting times....

we may pay in advance through taxes off our pay but having one major accident or serious medical problem would very quickly offset the money they take in taxes if you had to pay out of pocket . plus i think we'd pay high taxes anyways weather it went to helathcare or somewhere else, the government is always going to get their share, so it might as well go to healthcare . plus with the money just coming off my pay before i get it i don't miss it .

The middle of April I had some chest discomfort. Within 2 1/2 weeks I had an angiogram, then within 2 weeks I had a double angioplasty. A week later I had chest pains and went to our local hospital. They threw me in a bed immediately. All is great now. Best of all NO BILL. Just my 2 cents worth. :D
