No sure I could bring myself to eat an eel.

Caught a ling once out in Alberta - big, ugly thing with rusted hooks in it's mouth. Came up like pulling a snagged log. Other fisherman wanted it and I was all too glad to part with it.

i have seen fishermen who wouldn't touch a ling to take it off the hook so they just cut their line, not sure if it is the case there or not

Eel is good eating. I have had them on a number of occassions. They do put up a good fight and will tie your line in a rats nest if you let them.
I hunt for memories, the meat's a bonus!
