Slick Tricks

Post by Big D »

I have only shot 2 broadheads in my 13 years of crossbow hunting.
buckblasters with my barnett demon and spitfire 125 with my quad 300 and now my favorite equinox. I am considering slick tricks 125 but I have a few questions if any body can please help.

1. I no most of you shoot 100 gr. on carbons with brass inserts for FOC. Will the 125's fly well on 2219 aluminiums? I want more FOC no brass insert.

2. What are the difference in performance between the slick trick magnums and the regular? I no the magnums have a bigger cut but will they perform as well? If I purchase which one do you recommend?

Thanks for your help! Big D

i use the 125 mag's on my 2117 XX75 arrows out of my exo 200 with 110gr brass inserts and two 25gr screw on brass weights behind the insert at 550gr total arrow weight with 21.4 % FOC out to 50 yards dead on to field points....i can't see much of a difference between the 7/8" to 1 1/8" wide BH's, i went for the biggest hole with the mag's.......bob

here's where i got my stuff from....

http://www.above-timberline.com/gold%20 ... onents.htm

i called the guy and he went over measurements with me so i bought the right stuff, very good guy to deal with....look over his site and see what will fit the 2219's you have, i think the 22 series is the ones you might need....if you have a digi caliper you should be able to find what ya need there...............bob

I can tell you this. I introduced the Slick Trick to this forum a number of years ago when I 1st found this the 1st year Gary came out with them. And guys said I would like to try them now you have a good number of guys using them.
I've hunted with a crossbow about 30 years now and they are the best broad head I've ever used for a crossbow.
1st time around 13 pass troughs straight and then 26 pass troughs straight.

Their strong thick blades and fly like field tips. I have never had a bad slick {unbalanced}

Try them one season, if you don't like them I'll buy them from you.

Quote 2. "What are the difference in performance between the slick trick magnums and the regular? I no the magnums have a bigger cut but will they perform as well? If I purchase which one do you recommend?"

If, by performance, you mean flight that may depend on the size of vanes you will be using. Indications are that longer vanes tend to stabilize a bigger broadhead on an arrow with relatively lower FOC. But the ST mag is only 1/8" wider than the reg so it hardly matters. Both shoot very well for me using 2" Blazers (on carbons); these arrows have 18% FOC with a 100 gr head and 20% with a 125 grnr.

If by performance your mean terminal performance, that one eight inch (could) make a difference. Since they both fly well for me I opted for the slightly wider head. BTW, their Griz Tricks are 1.25" wide.

I have about 18 arrows that are 2219 with 5 inch vanes and slight helical with no brass insert. Shoot great with spitfire. do you think the 125 slick mags. will fly well with these arrows.

Thanks again for all your help!

If you want the perfect flight I'd advise you switch to Lazar2's

but the slicks will fly better. I have used spitfires and they fly great but they done have the lasting strength the Slicks do.

Thanks guys for your help I might of found 20 & 50 grs weights which will screw in the back of a certain 2219 insert. They will also screw in the back of each other to stack them up for more weight. If this works I was thinking of 70 gr. plus a 100 or 125 slick mag. with my 2219. Total weight woulb be 528 with 100 gr & 553 with 125. What do you think?
