lil girls first shots(excalibur)

Post by crazyfarmer »

welp, since I dont have a smaller crossbow I let her shoot the equinox today. I setup a bench and rest since she cant hold it obiviously. She will shoot from a rest in the stand anyway her first time out. She's only 7 but she handled this powerhouse like a PRO! I went over the basics with finger placement, trigger squeeze, and aiming and she nailed it. I had the target out at 17 yards for her first shots. Finally, after she was ready I clicked the safetly off. I was right there kneeling beside her watching her fingers and actaully helping keep the bow level. Also, just wanted to make sure she had a good grip so the bow wouldnt jump after the shot(225lbs has some jump).

the pics below will say it all;)

Here she is learning the scope and eye placement in front of the scope..

here is her first shot.. keep in mind its sighted for 20 so it should be high. She nailed it on her first shot and a series of high fives took place

Ok, lets see how good she is.. time for a 2nd shot

Im glad I took the 1st arrow out!!!! Exact same hole!!!

her Bday is in Sept and the youth hunt is Sept 26th so I think a vixen 2 is on order now;) Needless to say, I'm very proud. People bash xbows, but what better way to teach a lil one the basics of hunting. She's tried a compound bow, but she cant hold it correctly yet.

thanks for reading:)

Wow!! Keep those photos coming. One of the mission statements I suggested for a crossbow club I'm trying to get going was to introduce kids and women to hunting by shooting something they can handle and isn't too intimidating until they make up their own mind as to what kind of weapon they chose for hunting. IMHO the crossbow is a great confidence builder.

I think the vixen or vixen 2 would be ideal for anyone in the 6-10 year old range to start out with. I didnt want to spend 500 on a vixen and her not like the bow, but after seeing her shoot the equinox I'm pretty sure she likes the crossbow. She was getting frustrated shooting the compound but her confidence is back now with the crossbow. The whole time I was worried more about her losing my arrow LOL. I actaully think she shoots better than me. She slowly squeezed the trigger and didnt have any jerk or anything 8)

And it is also a bow she could use the rest of her life. Like a fine long gun, some weapons stay in your arsenal.

To get my girls interested and focused . . .I folded up some dollar bills and placed them on the target. They took turns shooting and whoever hit the dollar took it. Ten shots, ten dollars, and ten minutes later . . .they were done. They are ready to shoot any time I want to part with my $$.
