Definitely the kid!

I can't wait to be in that kind of situation with my own boy. It will be the best hunt of my life!

The kid!!!! Although I know of two stories like this in my hunting area. One guy took his sons 20 ga. and killed a 170 inch buck, the other story the dad didn't see the buck until it was to close. So he couldn't take the bow away without scaring the buck in his words. The kid harvested a 160 inch typical 10 point. I went to see both of the bucks the night after the kills, and I can tell you the kid appeciated it WAY more. Good thing dad didn't see him when I did he told me. Smiling from ear to ear!

This kinda happened to me a couple of years ago. I'd taken my sweetheart with me and it was her first shotgun hunt. She'd done all the courses and passed with flying colours. We sighted in her little 20 gauge, got to the watch real early and started seeing deer. We both had drawn an antlerless permit and since we love to prepare and cook venison, we wanted anything for the freezer and we were'nt going to be too fussy with the first one. Well, when a little buck moved in rather fast, she whispered to me that if I wanted that one for the freezer I had better take the shot. I felt bad about doing it but .0009 miliseconds later it was all over.

Easiest answer in the world. The kid shoots the buck.

I suppose that this is easy for me because while I prefer the nice rack, I am first and foremost a meat hunter.

When my kids shot deer, I was happier than if I would have taken the shot myself.

I know it wouldn't matter little doe or world record buck, the kid get's the shot, if they miss oh well the deer is still there for another hunt, I would be backup for a bad hit which I hope to make right, but to take that glory away from young one would be a shame, not talking about hating you the rest of your life for taking away their chance of something to brag about so you can on your ego, not me

If the kid is confident in taking the shot,Id say go ahead BUT if he or she his shaking like a leaf and its the buck of a lifetime, hand me over the bow please!
It also depends on how fast the situation happens.
Can you see the deer coming from a distance or does the deer just show up unexpectly?
Tough question for sure either way!
If im not out shooting deer.

the Kid, for sure. 100%

But another good question would be, what would you think/do if the kid missed that trophy of a lifetime?

After the hug and no criticism I truly think you would have a kid that would beg to go back to the woods and try again every chance they got, kill or no kill everybody wins, the deer lives the kid is hooked and you seen it all

As soon as that big buck stepped out of the woods you would have a story for a lifetime regardless of the outcome.
