Slather some axle grease around the bottom of the pole and then wrap barbed wire around the top. Coons have very sensative feet, if they make it through the axle grease, they definatly will not make it throught the wire. Keeps them out of the bird feeder for sure !

I believe perrysbirds is talking about a deer feeder, not a bird feeder.

About the only thing that will work is to either trap and shoot or trap and relocate. Whichever you prefer.

Either way, about the only way to thin them out is to trap them out.

Yup, he's right, deterrence is a tough go on those things.. Dead or gone are your only options if there are other animals around.

Take it one step farther, mix some cayenne pepper with that grease, I use Vaseline and tabasco sauce, they will not, under any circumstances cross that mixture.
Some say a coons touch is so sensitive they can distinguish color through touch, I have no doubt they are correct.

If the coons are climbing up the pole or legs of the feeder?

Insulate the pole/legs then wrap them with electric fence wire and energize the wire with a proper farmer's electric fence rig.

I won't hurt the coons, but it will keep them off.

fly bait and coke just keep your animals away. Keeps the coons out of the chicken coop out this way. they wont get 10 feet from the bowl if you mix it right.
