Vortex FPS

Post by Dereck »

Took my son up to Shooter's Choice to shoot the vortex and he put me to shame I thought he would be all over the place but no he kept them inside a 3" circle at 20 yds.

Now back to the FPS

While there I was able to put a couple over the chrony.
Came in at 302 and 303 FPS.

Shooting a 20" 400gr arrow

That sounds just about right, with that weight of arrow and type of string.
Sounds like he had some fun. :) That is the only Excal. I have not had yet, but would sure like one in the future.

Vortex FPS

Post by greener »

Dereck, I have a new Vortex with STS and a Boo string. Brace Height is 1/4 in. below the top hash mark on the deck. 380 Gr. GT 2's with brass front inserts and 2" Fusion vanes. Bolts are cut down to 19 inches. This set up gives me 320 FPS. Matches perfectly with the Hawke SR scope for 20 to 50 yds. I can easily shoot 328 to 330 fps if I drop the bolt weight down to 350 gr.

Right now I am shooting 100 gr field tips and broad heads
I take it 1" is equal to 20gr

What about going to a smaller tip what is the lowest gr broad head I could get, don't want to heat these to take the tips out.

Looking into some custom arrows from John in the near future maybe I will get 6 - 19" to try that set up and see how it works.

I guy at The Bow Shop said going with a 350gr arrow was the same as dry firing it almost.
Any truth to that?
