Crossbows In Nova Scotia
Moderator: Excalibur Marketing Dude
philman,
Newfoundland would be a great spot for crossbows. There sure are lots of opportunites to hunt The Rock. We are heading over at the end of the month for a week for a moose hunt.
Great forum guys and gals.
I discover more useful information every time I check in.

Currently here in NS, we can hunt deer with our crossbows in the general open season for deer hunting. Thats it. No moose, no bears, no yotes, no small game. Hope to change all that though. Our recent provincial election slowed the process quite a bit. We had hoped to have new species this fall, evan had some new resolutions passed at our annual federation meetings, but thats as far as we got.
Now that the new gov is hard at work, the federation is hoping to have a sit down with the new minister to see if a few things can be pushed along.
Moose and bears are on the wish list. So is some sort of special crossbow only season, may evan have zone specific areas for crossbows.

I really do not understand why we cannot get crossbows legal in all provinces and states but if it takes small wins like one species at a time so be it good luck with your deer this fall and keep pressure on the Nova Scotia government for bear and moose and have a Keiths cheers
The best things in life are not things!!
Madmax,
Like many other jurisdictions, we have to deal with many obstacles. Sometimes I wonder why........when we all have a common goal.
BUT.....back to hunting!!
I have my eye on this big boy. He hangs with quite a few other bucks, but he is the alpha.......just need to figure out where he hangs his rack during the daylight hours.
We have many pictures on the trail camera. I have evan seen him a few times. Seems he shows himself alot more as the snow gets deeper. Never really went after him, always let him come to us. This year we are going after him.

HW,
Its not uncommon these days to have a deer weigh over 200lbs dressed, here in NS. The fella I shot last year dressed 201. That puts him in the 250-255 live weight class. There are some big deer here, for sure!
On another note,
Anyone know which provinces offer a stand alone crossbow training course....
Anywhere it can be viewed....
Our provincial DNR is working super hard to get an online crossbow course designed, but I think it may be tied to the current classroom bow course.
Oh, and big thanks to Peter (Excal marketing dude), I heard he, they, Excalibur, will be attending our first DNR, NSACH open house, seminar, training day next month.

Hi scottee,
We don't have a clubhouse...Meet at a local legion or a local club will host us for meetings.
Heck, we don't evan have an official crossbow range anywhere in the province yet. DNR will allow you to sight in your crossbow at a public range as long as you are fully qualified to hunt with it.
Just recently formed the association. Still trying to round up crossbow hunters in Nova Scotia.
I know there are quite a few out there.
Our website is www.nsach.ca
Check it out.
We have a bunch of things happening.
Will you be hunting with a crossbow this year?
