New Here
Just purchased an Excalibur Vortex and learning to shoot. Pennsylvania just legalized use of crossbows during archery season, so I'm going to give it a go. I will be using my Summit climber treestand that I've been using in regular archery season, and am wondering if there is some kind of bipod/monopod that can be used in a climbing stand? I have no rails on the upper portion of the climber to rest the CB on, so need something else for that purpose. I don't think a regular monopod/bipod will work too well due to the open spaces between the slats on the platform. I can imagine the monopod/bipod falling through the slats when trying to turn or position for a shot. Do they make anything for climbers that is steady and safe...that won't fall through the slats?

I have used the summit viper for the last ten years or so in pa. I use to have the heavy model sold it used and purchased the lighter model. The ralling on the viper is nice for crossbows. I know the heavy version is pretty cheap you may want to invest in a stand for cossbow hunting and use the other for vertical bows. Actually were do you live in pa? I have a brand new extra summit viper the lighter new model. I shoot traditional recurve also and am looking for a open model with out the ralling. If you are interested we could trade the tops of are stands, the ralling gets in the way of my recurves bottom limb. It would be nice to have one open and one with a ralling. This would help both of us out. Just let me know if your interested. you could send me a personal email on this forum if you would like regarding this question.
Thanks Big D

Welcome aboard!
Also new to CB and will be hunting Fulton County, PA where my brothers have property. Been thinking of mostly hunting from the ground but must also figure how to use the CB out of both open and railed stands. Besides bowhunting out of my open stand I've also used it with my Ruger Super Blackhawk and a mono-pod rest placed down into my boot. Really wasn't a very good solution so I'm interested in what folks here have to say.
Take care...

Thanks!
Thanks everyone for the welcomes and suggestions! I think I'll try the leg option (the monopod that braces on the thigh). Much apprciated to the one offering a trade, but I'd like to keep my open stand for bow hunting...and it's lighter.

Welcome!! Lot's of happy campers w/ Horton knee pod, I prefer to practice w/ my elbow resting on my knee, I can do well at my 30 yd limit w/ that method.
I made a rest out of a crutch for my ground blind, adj about 7-8" just by cutting the top two tubes off and putting a wood block on the ends w/ a notch for the rail to sit in to keep it from sliding off, pics [ad nauseum] if needed.
