Can an Exomax shoot short bolts?
Can an Exomax shoot short bolts?
Well, a long time ago I watched a video on youtube, showing an Exomax shooting special bolts for special purposes:
- nails for hunting small games & birds,
- a short bolt for personnal defense,
and so on...
Does anyone remember it? I can't find the video anymore...
And now a stupid question: has anyone ever tried to shoot short (but heavy) bolts from an Excalibur crossbow? Is it possible, as long as the weight is similar to a normal bolt?

Boo had one of those little bullet looking things once. It looked interesting to say the least.
You got someboby to pick off?

I'd rather wear out than rust out.

You can go as short as you like provided the point isn't any wider than the shaft, and the weight stays over the minumum recommended. Haven't tried it, but I suspect if you go much shorter and it won't be all that accurate.
I've shot some 16" arrows out of an Exomax - managed to hit 400 fps with them (200 grains) on about 3 shots, but highly not recommended.

There was a guy on here a long time back, engineer from Illinois, I believe that had made some 6" 'arrows' up that looked like a giant field point w/ bhead blades for vanes.
He'd converted an Emax so these things sat in a slot, not on top of a conventional rail. He also had a shot gun type conversion for it if I recall.
He left in a huff due to the response he got, his loss.
Anybody else remember it? Went a bunch of pages.

Here are some CB bolts that are about 11.5". Not certain how historically correct the are.

I had some 18" customs made for a bud that was too cheap to buy a rf for a carvewd tip Vixen i let slide away, trying to get down to 325 gr and flatten his traj a tad. They didn't fly as well as the 20's.crazyfarmer wrote:a bolt that short will be no different than dryfiring the bow
18 is the shortest I would go, but it would have to be over 350 grains also
The guy I mentioned in previous post had them flying like darts at 50 yds and I think they weighed in the 400+ gr range.

For 3D, I use XX75 -2216 which are 18". With a 125gr fieldpoint, they weigh approx. 420 gr. and their accuracy is awesome, whether I use my Exocet, or Exomag.
