Ohio exocet connects... great night of hunting!

Post by ohioexocetfan »

Got him tonight (Wed) around 6 p.m. 10 pt. approx. 17" inside spread. Sat in our ditch and set the crossbow up on a bi-pod. He came out of Dad's corn field directly in from of me at 33 yards. (measured it the day before) Waited for a broadside shot. Never happened... he just kept coming closer and apparently he was going to cross the ditch in the same little area I was laying. ( to get to the woods on the other side.) He got to about 15 yards and I grunted... still straight on shot. I let the bolt go and it hit him good... shot placement could have been better... OK, maybe a lot better, but it took out his shoulder, broke a rib and got into his lung. He went into the corn about 50 yards. Took us a while to find him. My hunting buddy lives down the road... he's good at tracking so I gave him a call. We got him around 8:15 p.m. the luminok did a good job.. helped us find him between the rows. He was very skinny... gut was very bloated and completely full of air and crap. (nasty smelling does not begin to describe) Had a cyst on his belly. Testicles about the size of grapes. He had not lost all his velvet, so there was something definitely wrong here. You can see his ribs and backbone sticking up something fierce. Can wrap your hands all the way around his neck. Not sure he would have made it through the winter... Rest of the season I'll try to get the boys a deer, thin out some does and try to fill a recurve bow dream.
Have a good night guys... going to bed! Take care, Jeff
