Trophy hunting

Post by Arkbow »

ANY deer to me is a trophy; two years ago I finally killed a doe that I've been hunting for over 4 years; she was responsible on numerous occassions of letting every deer within a 2 mile radius know that I was in the woods; no matter how careful I was, no matter how much attention I paid to the wind or my scent, she would bust me every time; her luck finally ran out and I was able to slip a arrow through her and when I found her I was as proud as if I killed the biggest buck in the woods;
So no matter the size or gender, I hunt for one reason, the blessing of the meat for me and my family; my trophy room is my spam... :)
Hunt hard, respect what you hunt and waste no meat;

I start the season with high expectations, but usually take the first buck that comes along. This season has been the rare one so far, in that I did actually pass on a spike buck. Since we are allowed only 1 buck per year I didn't want to end the buck hunting this soon. Figured I could get a doe for meat, and I did get one a few days later, so now I can be selective for a few weeks.

I am not real picky. I can pass on spikes etc but as the season goes on my self enforced limits decrease with the opportunity.

Some people look at a deer and estimate the gross and net score of the rack before deciding whether to shoot or not. I ponder the tenderness and size of the roasts and loin chops before I shoot.

Must have been fixed up before Grizz got home, otherwise, there would be a bite or two taken before anyone could grab the camera. :lol:

How's your biking coming along Grizz?

Doing OK. Hope to do an hour later today.

I wasn't able to do the daily regimen while I was in Indiana, and I'm going to be away for eight days at an out-of-state speaking engagement starting tomorrow.

I can't wait to get home and settle down into the normal daily exercise routine!

Travel and staying away from home can really bust your norm, but I think during this week in the mountains I can get in some good walking every morning ... some along the Appalachian Trail. :D
