Advice on Hunting Hogs in Texas

My buddies and I were watching a hunting show and the host mentioned that Texas is litteraly becomming over run with hogs. Well, we would love to hunt some hogs. So I start doing some internet research and all I can find is luxury resorts for $200 a night and up that provide all kinds of services for hunters... walk in coolers, skinning service, bar, etc. etc. Paying to hunt hogs in Texas, sort of sounds like paying to hunt coyotee in Pennsylvania.

There has got to be a rancher out there that needs some help reducing thier hog poplulation. If there is, I can bring four ethical hunters to Texas in the early spring (after deer season is over) to help out. We don't litter, we clean up after ourselves, we respect property, wild life and land owner requests. We're just looking for a place to setup camp, or will stay in a near by hotel, and permission to hunt a ranch.

Anybody no some one that could use some help, maybe we can work something out.

All of the ranchers have discovered that the problem hogs cloud has a silver lining. They found out people will pay to come and shoot them.

I think you will have a tough time finding a "freebie" but you never know.

Regardless of what you find, you will need a Special Non-Resident license (five days or less and only exotics, varmints and hogs) that run $48.00. A non-resident full hunting license is now over $300.00. And tons of people buy them!

We have a guy that brings hunters on to our ranch to kill hogs and he pays my mom $50.00 for everyone they kill. Of course he charges the hunters $125.00 for the same pig so he pockets $75.00 per pig plus his guide fee.

They usually take around forty pigs a year off our place and my ninety year old mother uses the money to go on bus junkets to the casinos with all the other old cronies.

The only rule the boys have imposed restricting mom's gambling is no hog hunting for one month prior to or during the deer season.

check out Guide Girl on Crossbow Nation, they are crossbow users and reasonably priced. My brother has a ranch out in texas and has a similar set up as MIKE P's mother.... out there hunting is big business! good luck!!!

no doubt check out wendy ( guide girl ) last time I was there the trail cam showed about 15 at a time... she and butch are tops in my book.... check it out... you will love them and they do know how to produce .. I stay at the antler's inn for 45 a nite, clean etc. ... fifteen minutes and you are at the lease... I will stop for now... it will be a few months fore I can go again.. so don't want to get too worked up ... lol

Yes, Texas is pretty thick with hogs. My inlaws and I got a new deer lease this year and we have seen dozens already in the last 2 months. We have 800 acres mostly wooded and we have 4 hunters on it this year. We may try to get 2 more on next year but that will be about it. Where do you live maybe we can swap out some hunting?

I didn't realize if you had a lease in Texas that you were restricted as to how many hunters could go on the land.

I'm located in south western PA. I have access to a 260 acre farm and the owner wouldn't mind if we hosted a few hunters from texas. PA might be a bit far for some of you to drive to hunt white tail.

Its pretty standard to have at least 50 acres per person, but the lease we're on now set the limit at 8. We dont want more than 6. Being a new lease they aren't going to let anyone else hunt there until after our first deer season. Once season is over it shouldn't be a problem to get a couple of guys out there to hog hunt, especially if we see alot more before season is over. Stay in touch and we will see what we can do after the beginning of the year.
