Moose Hunt

Post by Peach »

It was a hard hunt this year. We are not seeing as many moose as a few years ago...blame the bears, the wolves...and maybe overhunting.

I had chased a big bull for 2 days without ever getting a shot. Finally, on wed night, I decided to paddle a creek where I had shot a bull and a cow 4 years ago. Grabbed my buddy and off we went, paddling this little 12 foot jon boat...going downstream was easy, it was coming back that was the fun part. Anyways, stopped at the same point and wedged ourselves in the weeds and I threw out a couple of soft cow calls. Within minutes I could hear something walking in water about 200 years in front of us. He walked right by us but could not see him through the tag alders, until finally he peaked his nose out at 150 yards behind us. My buddy was in a better position so I told him to hold his gun while I confirmed if he was a bull...not easy on the water when you start to get the adrenaline flowing. It took about 5 minutes for him to finally step out of the tag alders and stand broadside. We both raised our guns, squeezed and he dropped. Two well placed shots in the bread basket, and a few errant shots afterwards to make sure he did not move...

All in all a good hunt and some good memories.

Sounds like a lot of fun. How did you get him out of there?

Congrats!

we were able to grab a 14 foot boat with an older motor and drag the 12 footer behind...brought the 12 footer on shore, rolled the moose into it, dragged it to the water, and towed her home....actually not much work to it, it was easier than most bush retrievals.

I suppose getting it into the boat was the hardest part. Glad you had a successful hunt.

If a post is brought up from a year ago and the poster has a direct link to a web based business, then you think they might be a spammer?

Seems like one of those "you might be a redneck" jokes. You might be a spammer if . . .
