More Virginia Success with the Exomax!

Last Friday morning....the rain stopped during the night, but the woods were soaked and dripping. Went to one of my honey holes and climbed the tall Poplar. Watched a small 4 pointer rub a tree to a shine for 30 minutes at about 8 AM. Then at 9:11, I saw a deer in the brush coming down the small ridge to my left.....at least three high points on the left. He started to go the way of the other buck....I grunted, he turned and presented me with a quick 20 yard shot.....that PLUNK sound and off he went. Lost sight of him and didn't see him go down. Tracked 100 yards in the wet leaves and found my 6 pointer, no brows and he had already broken a G-3 off fighting. He was a good first buck for the Exomax, shooting the 446 grain 2216's with the Sonic 125.

Now fast forward to yesterday afternoon.....same tree....nothing but squirrels. Warm and crunchy leaves. About 33 feet up the tree to try to stay out of the thermals. Had four Trails End 307 scent leaves strategically placed. Then just when I think the light is about gone, I hear the faint sound and strain my feeble ears, turning my head to help pinpoint the sound. A slow cautious walk, coming down into the bottom of the hollow into the maple brush. Finally I see movement in the stream bed, lift my Leupold binoculars to peer 20 yards into the gloom.... and see the glint of antler. He goes down the stream bed and begins to put distance between us. Looks like he is going to cross to the right at the bottom of my ridge, so I lean way back and switch to the right side of the tree, leaning way out against my safety harness to clear the string angle from the tree. Just as I think there is only one chance for an opening he is through it and steps forward into another opening at 25 yards. PLUNK and off he goes. Three jumps and out of earshot. Nothing to do but climb down and find my arrow. Down I shinny, and start the search. Having trouble and then I see it embedded past the broadhead in a small oak tree about a foot off the ground......I CRINGE and then see the blood dripping from the nock the entire length of the shaft. The fat lady has sung! 100 yards later....there he is....eight points and 18.5 inch spread, with a dressed weight of 135 pounds....he actually was bigger than I thought he would be.
