Had to do it....shot him (crappy pic and secret lure added)

Post by DesertRat »

Well, slow would be an understatement for my season so far. I did not see my first deer until last tuesday. I went out tonight and fought with myself about where to sit. I forced msyelf to go into the swamp that has always been good even though it has been dead as hell this year.

At 3:40 PM i did one rattle sequence with my rattle bag. before I could put the bag away, a small 6 pointer came charging in. When he couldn't find the source of the noise he started to make his way out of the swamp. That was until he got downwind of my secret lure. he started back licking his nose and displaying tons of rutt behaviour. I was determined to let him walk but as time went on got to thinking about how slow things have been and decided I needed a freezer deer. Well, eventually he walked into a perfect shooting lane and stood broad side looking for the cause of that glorious smell. Exocet did the job,2 lungs and 80 yards later, he was down.

Of course my camera was dead so I will have to post my buddies cell pics tomorow when I get them.

Meat in the freezer, looking for this guy that I caught on camera now.

Congrats! It's always a relief to get that first deer of the season. 8)
