The landowner who owns the farm I hunt on shot my Phoenix a couple years ago and quickly hung up his Horton and bought a new Phoenix.
He took a week's vacation this week with the intention of getting a deer or two. This morning I wasn't able to hunt so he sat in my ladder stand at the food plot/feeder site. At 8:46 a deer came in to the feeder and since his mom wanted one for the freezer he decided to take it if it gave him a shot.
In this pic it's quartering away from him but just after my trail cam got the pic it turned to it's right toward the feeder (the cam is behind the feeder) giving a perfect broadside shot. If you look closely at the second pic there is a dark spot (entry wound) 1/3 of the way up behind the front leg just a little far back, but still a double lung shot.
This pic has to be right after the arrow passed through it -
He was using some GoldTip arrows I gave him with G-5 Montecs. Complete pass-through and buried to the fletching (2" blazers) in the ground on the other side of the deer. It turned out to be a button buck and went about 30 yards after the shot.
Now he's looking for something with antlers - and so am I!
Turns out the trail cam also showed I left the stand 1/2 hour too soon yesterday morning. A buck was at the feeder, but it might be good I had already left. Not much of a rack, but I doubt I would have let him walk.
